Responding to a flood

 

Once our Emergency Flood Response Team has been called out, there are a few things you can do to avoid further damage and reduce risk to yourself, staff and the public:

• When it is safe to do so, turn off all utilities, including gas, electricity, and water supplies, when floodwater is about to enter your home

• Ensure you do not touch any sources of electricity when standing in floodwater. TURN EVERYTHING OFF!

• If you come into contact with floodwater, wash your hands thoroughly. Floodwater can contain harmful substances like sewage. 

• Move any valuables to a dry area like a loft space on top of cupboards.
